This was my first attempt at a full blown styled shoot involving different wedding service providers in a collaborate effort to create something truly beautiful and unique.
The make-up artist, Mariette Synman, became friends with a Morrocan lady and as the two of them chatted about her culture, Marette was inspired to do a photoshoot. She contacted me and the two of us decided to do a Moroccan styled shoot, but with a twist. We got a team of talented service providers on board, and from there the shoot took on a life of it’s own – coming together piece by piece. We wanted to evolve slightly away from the boho-style that would typically be expected with this theme. We hand-picked only specific elements from Moroccan weddings to incorporate in our shoot. In doing so, we created a more classical style, for the bride who wants to add an exotic touch to her wedding, but doesn’t necessarily want a full Bohemian theme. We chose to go with just one bold colour and lots of textures like gold and copper, leather, wood and patterned glass on the plates. To add a true South African touch, we used Nguni skin on the floor, instead of Persian carpets. Even though Moroccan wedding dresses are absolutely gorgeous, we went with two beautifully romantic dresses with lace detailing, to compliment the ornate metal ornaments. The lace pattern was continued on the wedding cake, along with a flourish of gold. Instead of lightly styled, messy hair typical to the Boho trend, we went with a more traditionally Moroccan wedding look. At its heart, this is for the South African brides who may be more classical in their style, but want to add touches of bold colour, metals and lots of texture to their day.
I am very excited to share this shoot with you and I feel immensely proud and honoured to have it featured on The Pretty Blog!
